Budget Fearlessly

Bookkeeping, Mindset / By Valerie Johnston

Are you afraid to start a budget because you DON’T WANT TO SEE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU’RE ACTUALLY SPENDING?

Are you afraid you’ll see an enormous number and feel… despair? Overwhelm? Guilt?

If this is what keeps you from doing a budget, I beg you to reconsider the way that you see a budget.

A New Way to Budget

A budget doesn’t mean “bare minimum”. You can tell your budget that you’re going to spend $1,000,000 if you want! You can even tell your budget to RUN A DEFICIT for the month in order to invest in your future. (Read more Budgeting Tips.)

Guess what? You are GROWN. You don’t have to have anyone else’s permission to run YOUR business the way that YOU want to.

Should you seek out the advice of a mentor? Absolutely! (Make sure you choose someone caring, honest, and has the experience to mentor you.)

There’s nothing wrong with asking for help, but at the end of the day, the business succeeds or fails because of the decisions that YOU make with money.

And if you don’t have a budget, you don’t even KNOW what decisions you’re making with money!

A budget is nothing more than a money plan. Do you have to deviate from a plan sometimes? Absolutely. Life happens. However, the INTENTION of a budget is what separates calm from the frantic when it comes to money.

A Budget= Peace and Control

The budgeter doesn’t wake up in the morning, look at their bank account balance, and start the day off with a feeling of stress.

He doesn’t say no to great marketing opportunities because he’s afraid they don’t have enough.

She has a plan. She is calm.

He knows exactly how much money is left in the marketing category. He is in control of his business and its future.

A budget isn’t a chain, it is a key.

Set the terms. Set amounts. Then, set yourself free.
