It is my policy at Profit Meadow to not have any of my clients’ passwords!
Would it make things simpler sometimes? Absolutely!
There have been plenty of times when I needed the passwords updated in Quickbooks Online, and I had to email my client, wait for them to sign in to Quickbooks, and put in their passwords to update it for us.
Yes, it would have been easier for me to have the password and do it myself. HOWEVER I firmly believe in the separation of duties, and I want to keep my clients as safe as I can.
Make sure you are working with people who are dedicated to protecting your money, and don’t give anyone your passwords–not even your bookkeeper!
