Whether it’s blogging or posting on social media, we all want to know what will attract our future customers.
Here are the three categories that I use when trying to decide what to post about:
1. Solving Problems
I always do my best to make posts that help my clients solve problems. I’m not trying to hide any “secret sauce” in these posts either. I want to equip my followers with all of the knowledge that they need to do the books themselves. I don’t feel threatened by this because I feel that when their business grows to the point that they cannot do their own bookkeeping any longer, I will be the one they call.
2. Industry Problems
All of my clients are business owners, so I also post about things that business owners deal with, even if it isn’t bookkeeping related. This post is an example of this. I also post about finding health insurance as a business owner, different softwares to help make your life easier, and other helpful things a business owner might need.
3. Mindset
Aside from logistical advice, I also like to give mindset advice. This is something I seek out a lot as a business owner, so I know there is a need for it. Business owners need help and encouragement to be able to grow and flourish.
So you’re reading this and thinking, “That’s nice, Valerie, but I am not a bookkeeper and my target audience isn’t business owners. What should I do?”
So, let’s pretend that you own a pool business.
In the first category, you would have posts talking about your favorite brands/tools/equipment, best practices for maintaining your pool, and why you would want a pool in the first place.
In the second category, you could branch out even further. What else might a person be interested in if they own a pool? Swimming classes? Building a deck? Grilling outside with family? Hosting pool parties? Help potential customers find you with their related interests.
In the third category, you could talk about the relaxation that comes with having a pool. How could it help them mentally? How might their lives be better and calmer? Empower them to buy a pool for themselves.
I hope this helps! 🙂
