Balancing Life and Work

As we near the halfway mark of 2023, when you look back at the last six months, do you see a balanced life? Do you think you’ve accomplishing balancing life and work to the best of your ability? If not, there’s time to make improvements for these last six months! If you feel you maintained a good balance, you can still see if any of these ideas we share to maintain a work-life balance help you find even more balance for the months ahead.

  • Become a Morning Person

You don’t have to wake up at 6 a.m. to become a morning person. You don’t even have to wake up at 7 a.m. for it, maybe for you waking up at 8 a.m. will put you ahead of where you normally are at that time. Whichever time you choose to wake up, create a routine that you can stick to that will help the rest of your day be as balanced as possible. Make your bed, get movement in, journal or meditate. Take an hour for yourself to get settled and do personal tasks before work begins.

  • Check-Ins

Do a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly check-in with yourself. This gives you time to reflect, assess and adjust to what is and isn’t working. A lot can change in one month, let alone an entire year! Whatever worked for you in the beginning of the year, may not still make sense 12 months later. A check-in will keep you accountable for what has changed and making the appropriate adjustments to ensure you’re still living a balanced life.

  • Manage Your Time

Without time management, it’s tough to have a work-life balance each day. Try making a list of what needs to be done both personally and professionally for the day. Then build out a time schedule using your list. Start with your morning routine and build from there. Having a schedule for the day allows you to visually see wat you have accomplished, what you need to accomplish and how much balance you had in the day. You can then make improvements for the next day and week based on what you achieve each day.

  • Add Some Fun to Your Day

There are days where you need to work more and other day’s where it’s important you put you and/or your family first. Review your week and the past month and if you don’t see enough “fun” scheduled into your time, make that a priority for the coming days! Fun means different things to different people – maybe it’s a spa day, or a hike, or meeting up with an old friend. Whatever fun means to you, add it into your day’s where you can.

A work-life balance is important for everyone regardless of the stage of their career or where they are personally. Taking care of yourself and those around you helps you become the best version of yourself personally and professionally.
